Program Overview:

The Centre for Business (CfB) Student-Alumni Mentorship Program of George Brown College aims to build successful mentoring relationships between CfB alumni and CfB current students. Most of our students mention that “Opportunities to network” is one of the biggest challenges they currently face. We aim to tackle this challenge through making meaningful connections and by providing a framework for mentor and mentee to work on.

Purpose & Goals:

The primary objective of The CfB Student-Alumni Mentorship Program is getting our students, “Workplace ready”. We aim to achieve this through developing successful mentoring relationships to help students:

  1. Identify career paths that would better suit them

  2. Build skills and network needed to land the right job

  3. Obtain industry insights to do well in their chosen career path

The program also aims to strengthen relationships with CfB Alumni and create/strengthen our connection with the industry to better support our students in the future through real-time experience.

Program Summary:

This structured mentorship program will run for a period of 5 months . The necessary professional and personal details of mentors and mentees are collected through an online form. Matches will be made based on current/ preferred career paths, mentor’s experience, and personality traits.

This program is comprised of 6 sessions/ milestones. They are as follows:

- Ice breaker & Initial career path analysis

- Industry exposure

- Mentee identifying their preferred career path

- Resume & Cover letter Preparation

- Interview preparation

- Sharing/ learning other industry insights for career development

Mentees are more than welcome to complete the milestones in their own preferred order right after they have concluded the first session.

The minimum time expectation from the mentors is 1 hour for each session (A total of 6 hours for the program). It is up to the mentor and mentee to schedule and plan for each of these sessions based on their availability. Each session will have a deadline date. The mentees (students) will be required to update the program coordinator regarding their progress/completion within the deadline.

How are matches made?

Alumni mentors will be found, and matches will be made based on mentees’ preferred career paths, mentor’s experience, and personality-based questions. Please note that based on mentor availability, we might not be able to find someone that fully matches your career path interest, but all mentees will be matched with their best fit!

Want to become a Mentee?

Mentees will be selected based on an application with multiple choice and short answer questions that explore their need and interest in working with an alumni mentor. Applications will be reviewed and mentees will be selected based on mentor availability. Apply today to join!
